Ms Dynamite shows off her glamorous new look at the MOBOs

article-0-18DRemember me-e-e? Ms Dynamite shows off her glamorous new look at the MOBO Awards as she prepares to make her musical comeback

She was famous for her scraped back ponytail, tracksuits and hoop earrings back in the day.

But Ms Dynamite has come a long way from her former appearance, as she proved while attending the MOBO Awards in Glasgow, Scotland, on Saturday night.

The 32-year-old singer swapped her velour two-pieces for a sleek black dress as she posed up on the red carpet at the ceremony, showing off her slim figure in the process.

Ms Dynamite, real name Niomi Arleen McLean-Daley, teamed her long black gown with strappy sandals and her hair in a chic updo.

The singer has been somewhat out of the spotlight for the past few years, but is now preparing to release her comeback single, Cloud 9, alongside Shy FX on 21st October.

But Ms Dynamite said in a recent interview that she isn’t going to rush a comeback out, because she wants to make sure it’s done right.

She explained to The Independent: ‘I’m just happy anyone is remotely interested in what I’m doing anymore. That’s the privilege, right there! That’s amazing to me, and humbling.

‘But, you know, what is supposed to happen will happen, so I’m going to take my time about it. Because, in life, there’s no rush, not really. Is there?’

Ms Dynamite also added that another reason she wants to really focus on her comeback this time around is because the first time around she didn’t feel ‘worthy’ of her success.

She added: On the surface, sure, I had all this confidence, all this character. But when I went home at night, I just felt completely unworthy. I had no self-belief: as an artist, a singer; nothing.

‘It was all so strange. I couldn’t come to terms with it. Suddenly I had money, and I didn’t have to worry about feeding myself. But I couldn’t believe I was allowed to get away with it, that people were paying me to keep singing, when I couldn’t even really do that, not properly…’

Ms. Dynamite & Shy FX to release Cloud 9

What happens when you get two legends of UK music together in one room? Both recognised and respected as musical pioneers in their own right, Ms. Dynamite and Shy FX come together for new track, ‘Cloud 9’ released soon through Digital Soundboy in collaboration with Dynamic Music.

Already getting a lot of love and picking up early support from BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, KISS and Choice FM, ‘Cloud 9’ shows that these guys are back and at their best. Infectious Drum & Bass beats infused with a sweet reggae rhythm, Ms Dynamite and Shy FX are going back to their roots and paving the way for a new era of retro-futuristic reggae. Linking Shy’s celebrated production skills and Ms Dynamite’s mellow vocals, they’ve created a sound that is truly their own.

‘Cloud 9’ is the first track from Ms. Dynamite’s eagerly anticipated forthcoming EP and is a new musical direction for both Niomi and Shy. Niomi says. “I’m a vibes person. I don’t mean to take a long time between tracks but I have to live a little in between and love it myself first. Me and Shy got together and came up with this one. We’ve been working together for a while and this is us getting back to the roots where we come from.”

For those of us that were lucky enough to witness the huge effect that this duo had on the music scene growing up, it’s a match made in musical heaven – reggae with a Drum & Bass twist…did anything ever sound sweeter?

Ms Dynamite & Shy FX – Cloud 9 – “”I’m a vibes person” says Ms Dynamite

There’s a link, a bass culture ley-line which connects London and Jamaica.

The influence of immigrants from the Caribbean to the UK in the post-war period enriched the nation’s culture, allowing for all manner of hybrids to spring up. Jungle master and drum ‘n’ bass legend, Shy FX is aware of his roots.

Recording a series of tracks indebted to reggae and the music of the Caribbean, the producer recently paired up with Ms Dynamite. Two artists with phenomenal soundsystem pedigree, ‘Cloud 9′ is a fun, breezy salute to Jamaican life.

The Amen breaks of Shy FX shine through on occasion, though, keeping the track bang up to date. Taken from My Dynamite’s new EP (pre-order), it marks a new direction for the London artist.

“I’m a vibes person. I don’t mean to take a long time between tracks but I have to live a little in between and love it myself first” she explains. “Me and Shy got together and came up with this one. We’ve been working together for a while and this is us getting back to the roots where we come from.”
