Ms Dynamite blasts back with new album

The return of Niomi McLean-Daley – better known as Ms Dynamite – moves up a gear this week with the release of her excellent new Labrinth-produced single Neva Soft.

In 2007 – a couple of years after the release of her second album Judgement Days – Ms D bowed out of music to raise her son, Shavaar, now eight.

Recent guest appearances, such as on Katy B’s top five smash Lights On, confirmed her as a godmother of a British urban scene that has blossomed since her pioneering breakthrough.

“I’ve been doing music I find easy and fun,” Ms D admits. “It’s to help me figure out who I am as an artist because it has been a while,” she adds. “But the response I’ve had on every level has been overwhelming. People are happy I’m making music again and it’s very humbling.”

But while Dynamite fans include Tinie Tempah, Chipmunk and Magnetic Man, one listener remains immune to her appeal.

“Shavaar is much more into my brother (rapper Akala),” she says.
